Lincolnshire  County Council election

On Thursday 1st May, I invite you to vote for me
Dr Pam Byrd
I am your Independent candidate for Stamford East and  will speak up for you at Lincolnshire County Council

For Stamford residents, this election is a significant opportunity to ensure you are represented at Lincolnshire County Council by someone you consider can be trusted to work effectively for the local community.  Every vote counts and this election is your way to have your voice heard.

As a teacher and local employer in Stamford for many years, it would be an honour to be elected to speak up at the County Council for everyone in the Stamford East division.  This is particularly important as we begin the process of Local Government Reorganisation and transferring the delivery of essential services to a Unitary Authority.

I am already an experienced councillor representing residents in south Lincolnshire at Town and District Councils in the ward of Market and West Deeping.  I can see that change is coming and am stepping up to the challenge of being your representative for the benefit of everyone across the south of the county.

We are all free to vote in private for any individual that we wish.  'Independent' is not a political party or a group.  Each Independent candidate is elected on their own personal reputation for achievement. We are not restricted or governed by a political party agenda - we listen to our residents and work together to solve local concerns and promote the projects that make good sense. As Independents we are not here to engage in political in-fighting but to focus our energy into building a better future.

If you already know me, you will be aware of my achievements in education, training, family support and nursery provision.  Like many who live in south Lincolnshire, I love the area and am enthusiastic about contributing positively to improve local services for families, individuals and employers across the region.

I understand the task well and have demonstrated my commitment and leadership throughout many years of volunteering, community work and councillor responsibilities.

I decided to stand for election to the County Council because I believe we deserve a better representation of our local needs at county level and I have the experience and determination to get a much fairer deal for the residents in Stamford,  and all across the south of the county.

Representing our Communities

I am genuinely Independent and have no political background and no allegiance to any political party or to any group or individuals.  I am guided solely by the needs of the residents.  In Stamford East I am working alongside Richard Cleaver, the candidate for Stamford West, to offer an Independent choice to everyone in Stamford.

After a successful career living and working in South Kesteven, I am standing on my own merits with a proven track record of effective advocacy. Having learned a great deal in my role as Head of Faculty at Stamford College and in Cambridge, I have a strong record of achievement and am offering to bring a valuable set of skills and experience to the work of the County Council.

There is much to be done, and I am now in a position to commit the time and energy to speak up at the County Council on behalf of the residents of Stamford.

My focus is to make a compelling case for the families and all residents of this area, to work constructively with others to ensure we all get a fair and rightful share of county funds, directed in the most productive ways for the benefit of our community.

I can be relied on to work respectfully with other Independents and with councillors of all political parties.  Together with residents and businesses we can achieve the best outcomes for Stamford and all neighbourhoods in the south of the county.

The task ahead

It is my aim and mission to see Stamford and all areas in the south of Lincolnshire develop as healthy and thriving communities, and I am working towards that outcome.

Through my various local roles and responsibilities, I am very aware that there are many matters to be addressed.

Having good access to outdoor activities and leisure centre facilities underpins the health and well-being of our community.  The closure of Deepings Leisure Centre has been a significant loss to the area and has generated a strong public response. I am therefore keen to ensure that the Stamford swimming pool is well maintained and efficiently managed so that it is not at risk in the future.

I know too that protecting our green spaces for public enjoyment and well-being is another area of concern for us particularly when the same land is being considered for housing development.  We have matters that are extremely complex to resolve and there are a different options to take us forward.

I have already been active in the future of both issues and willingly offer my support, assistance and advice to any project groups. If needed, I have experience of business planning, lease negotiation, refurbishment of buildings, and of writing bids to obtain funding for community projects.

Through my work on the Neighbourhood Plan group I am currently working and leading on projects to address a range of concerns. I am also focused on achieving the following aspects of a healthy town:

  • Securing a varied range of good quality affordable homes suitable for everyone and all circumstances
  • Ensuring developers build according to permissions
  • Protecting our green spaces and the riverbanks
  • Support for the town centres and local businesses
  • Better access to  local health care services
  • Improving and extending our network of footpaths
  • Spaces for sports, leisure, arts, and cultural events
  • Increasing access to safe social activities for all ages

There are many issues that affect us in Stamford and the south of the county and I invite you to drop me a message, or we can arrange to meet in person so I can hear about your concerns and help to find a solution.
