South Kesteven elections

on Thursday 4th May, I invited you to vote for me
Pam Byrd
Thank you to everyone who supported me. I am now your Independent councillor for Market and West Deeping and I will speak up at South Kesteven District Council on your behalf.

As local residents, we all had three votes and six candidates to choose from.  Every vote counted and this election was your opportunity to select the people you consider can be trusted to work effectively for you.  I am now representing you in the ward of

Market and West Deeping.

'Independent' is not a political party or a group.  We were all free to vote in private for any individual or combination of individuals that we wish.  Each Independent candidate was elected on their own personal reputation for achievement.

If you already know me, you will be aware of my love for the Deepings and of my enthusiasm to contribute positively to improve local services.

I understand the area well and have demonstrated my commitment and leadership throughout many years of volunteering and community work.

I decided to stand for election to the District Council because I believe we deserve a better understanding of our local needs at district level and I have the experience and determination to get a much fairer deal for the Deepings.

Representing our Community

I am genuinely Independent and have no political background and no allegiance to any political party or to any group or individuals.  I am guided solely by the needs of the Deepings.

After a successful career living and working in South Kesteven, I am standing on my own merits with a proven track record of effective advocacy. Having learned a great deal in my role as Head of Faculty in Stamford and Cambridge, I have a strong record of achievement and am offering to bring a valuable set of skills and experience to the work of the District Council.

There is much to be done, and I am now in a position to speak up for the residents of the Deepings.

My focus is to make a compelling case for the families of this area and to work constructively with others to ensure  Deepings residents get their fair and rightful share of district funds, directed in the most productive ways for the benefit of our community.

Now I am elected, I can be relied on to work respectfully with other councillors, residents and businesses to achieve the best outcomes for the Deepings.

The task ahead

It is my aim and mission to see the Deepings develop as a healthy and thriving town, and I am working towards that outcome.

Through my various local community roles and responsibilities, I am very aware that there are many matters to be addressed.

Having good access to outdoor activities and leisure centre facilities underpins the health and well-being of our community.  The Leisure Centre closure has understandably been a significant loss to us and has generated a strong public response. I know too that protecting Mill Field for public enjoyment is another area of concern for us.  We have matters that are extremely complex to resolve and there are a different options to take us forward.

I have already been active in the future of both issues and willingly offer my support, assistance and advice to the project groups. If needed, I have experience of business planning, lease negotiation, refurbishment of buildings, and of writing bids to obtain funding for the Deepings.

Through my work on the Neighbourhood Plan group and Market Deeping Town Council, I am currently working and leading on projects to address a range of concerns in the Deepings, including the future of the Leisure Centre and the future of Mill Field.  I am also focused on achieving the following aspects of a healthy town:

  • Securing a varied range of good quality affordable homes suitable for everyone and all circumstances
  • Ensuring developers build according to permissions
  • Protecting our green spaces and the riverbanks
  • Support for the town centre and local businesses
  • Better access to  local health care services
  • Improving and extending our network of footpaths
  • Spaces for sports, leisure, arts, and cultural events
  • Increasing access to safe social activities for all ages

There are many issues that affect us in the Deepings and I invite you to drop me a message, or we can arrange to meet in person so I can hear about your concerns and help to find a solution.
